[glow=navy,2,300]A Lost Spirit: Nakoma[/glow] [glow=navy,2,300]Nakoma walked along the snake-like river. Far away, her ears picked up the sound of others. She didn't pay attention. If she could smell them, then she would run. Wild boar raced past. Nakoma was starving! Before she realized it, she was chasing the boar, her muscles pumping .Her white claws raked the boar's hind. She pushed up, and was soon on top of the boar. Everything was hazy. Kill.... Kill and I stay alive. She bit into the boar's neck. She heard the distant shout of the natives. Nakoma dragged the boar to a near tree, and began to eat. When she was done, her claws were stained with blood. Nakoma stared at the boar for a while. Then she padded away from her kill. She washed the blood off herself, and drank from the river. Full fed, Nakoma settled in a near tree root, watching the clouds pass over. Her eyes slowly closed, then boom! Nakoma was being pinned by a full grown bear. Nakoma managed to rake it's underside, but if it hurt, it did not show it. The bear's face leaned in close. Idiot! Why hadn't she realized it? The root was far to big for her. It was the entrance to a den! Another sniff told her the grizzly was a mom. Nakoma zoned out, and everything went by in a blur. The only thing she knew, was that the bear was covered in blood, and so was one of the cubs. Nakoma herself was bleeding mercilessly from a wound. Her beautiful pelt was stained red. Fear crawled throughout hr. Suddenly, the bear's face leaned in close. it's breath reeked of blood. Nakoma felt woozy. Nakoma closed her eyes, waiting. Will she survive? [/glow] I HAVE NAKOMA'S BROTHERS FOR ADOPTION!!!! GOT OT Halo247's Thread IN Start Your Journey!!!!!!!!

If things were supposed to go smoothly then they would! That was the way she saw today. Already many things had gone wrong, a warrior patrol was sent with a hunting patrol to help bring down an elk or two for the pack, somehow she had messed that up when the animal came charging at her. She remembered clearly the elk charging her, what she did was rather stupid and it had almost cost her, her soft plush coat. The she-wolf shook her head, a sick feeling coming to her stomach as she tried to block out the memory. The Chief had been told what she had done and although she wasn’t punished for it, it still gave her sick feelings. Glancing at her surroundings Alana tried hard to focus on something else instead. The sound of the river didn’t calm her nerves at it always had, and the cold rock beneath her coat made her uncomfortable. How could things not be right on a beautiful day like today?
A pair of wild boars suddenly came charging out of the forest growth, startling the young she-wolf. Her hackles rose all the way down to her tail, something had startled them. Something was going on and being a warrior it was her duty to find out what! Getting up, totally alert of everything going on around her she traced the boars scent all the way back up the river. Ears forward and nose to the ground she couldn’t help but pick up the faint trace of bear. Lifting her head to the full height she carefully put one paw in front of the other and advanced carefully. This must be the place we were warned to stay away from
. She thought, jerking her head this way and that to keep an eye out for the big black… or brown bear that could be in the area. Lowering her head she stalked through the forest, closer and closer.
“Wolf.” She muttered as she picked up on the fresh scent, “Loner probably. A stupid one, too!” Alana paced herself, not wanting to draw attention. Dropping down into a low crouch she crept up to a fern. Before her was a lone she-wolf, she seemed to be resting, the kind of thing all her pack members did after they had eaten a good meal. Ugh! Bear stench, how can she not smell it?!? |
Alana wanted to warn her about the bears that lived near here, but before she could the sound of heavy footsteps and breathing came from within the forest. Tensing, Alana waited for the stranger to hear it coming, but she seemed oblivious! Come on, get out of there! Too late, the grizzly was on top of her. Blood roaring in her ears, Alana’s instincts kicked in. Sneaking around the back of the giant bear as quickly and silently as she could she leaped onto it’s back, took hold of the scruff and violently pulled back. “ RUN!” Came her muffled cry as the bear roared in rage, flinging its paws trying to get Alana off its back. “ RUN YOU FOOL!” Alana demanded, waiting to see the she-wolf dart out from under the bear so she could let go and run for her own life… [/blockquote]

Blood swam across her vision. Nakoma's thoughts emptied as the world of brown (and stinky) bear fur swam. At first she didn't realize it, but the weight of the bear was lifted off. Nakoma was paralyzed with shock. Is it dead? It could be the only possible reason. But no, she heard the bear roar, and she saw a flash of wolf pelt. Someone had saved her, but who? She suddenly recognized the scent, it was from another wolf. The bear was too big for one wolf, and Nakoma wasn't much help, her injuries would only cause chaos. So she dragged herself slowly to the river and began to wash. As the blood swam away, Nakoma saw some cobwebs. A distant memory came into focus. She was walking with her mother in their old territory. It was springtime, and the golden rays made her mother's sun pelt gleam. Her brothers were messing around in the stream. The green grass under paw was soft, smooth. Nakoma laid her head down near the river, watching the fish swim by. The water was of an aqua blue, the sky clear. "See those cobwebs?" said her mother's soft, sweet voice. Nakoma searched around for the cobwebs her mother had just pointed out. She found them across the stream, their white strings gleaming like lace in the morning sunlight. Nakoma nodded her head, fully alert. "Cobwebs stop bleeding on wounds. And that plant over there-" her mother pointed to a gold plant next to the cobwebs "- is marigold. It stops infection." Nakoma nodded her head, and went back to watching fish. The sudden roar of a bear that was not from the memory returned Nakoma to reality. Nakoma lunged for the cobwebs. She stared at them, she had to be certain that this was a really cobweb. After a moment or two, Nakoma pressed it onto her shoulder wound, after a minute, the wound stopped bleeding. She hurriedly pressed it to her other wounds, and saw with relief that they all stopped. She raised her head and nodded as a thank you and salute to the wolf gods, and her father. "Hey! She-wolf! Over here! We need three or four wolves to take this bear down, it's far too big!" Nakoma had to yell over the bear's ferocious roars. "We need to knock it out!" Rain poured down hard. Thinking for a moment, an idea sprang into her mind. "The river is rising! I just washed, but the scent of blood will be fresh! We need to get the bear in the river! Its weight and pelt will pull it down! Do you understand?!" It was wild, a lost hope, but it can be done. Nakoma waited anxiously for an answer. For now, it was her only hope.

The bear under her was starting to tumble. Obviously it had plans and it wasn’t going to let up as easily as Alana had hoped it would. Since when did it ever? The young she-wolf was ready; all of her training had prepared her for moments like this! When the bear rolled, she leapt off and landed smoothly on the rock in front of the bear. A big mistake, when she landed the bear had risen to its’ paws and swiped at her hind quarters. Pain shot through her whole body. Great, now I’ll look like Flies with Bears!
She thought. Alana didn’t fancy being in the medicine den for the next full moon waiting for her wounds to heal. Spinning around, Alana raked her claws across the bears face with the satisfaction of knowing she had hurt her enemy. And now it is time for me get out of here.
But just as she was about to leave, a blur of black and white fur flashed by her. Spinning around wide eyed, she watched as the wolf she had just saved turn and fight the bear. No, No, NO! |
This was not how it was supposed to be! She was supposed to run, because the mother bear won’t leave her cubs for very long. Alana could do nothing but stare. She watched the stranger attack the bear with a vicious vengeance. A harsh wind blew through the trees and large drops of water sailed down from the sky. It was the first thing to get the mesmerized wolf’s attention. Glancing up, she saw large heavy clouds above her head, but still there was blue. A stray rain shower in the sun! It had happened before, and if it wasn’t for the bear Alana would be enjoying the cool drops. “ - - We need to get the bear in the river! Its weight and pelt will pull it down! Do you understand?!" Alana snapped back to attention. She looked frantic. Alana looked behind her and saw the mother bear charging towards them in all furry. “ Of course I understand!” Alana said in a panic. The rain was falling steadily now, but hard. Alana dashed in the direction of the river. Her knowledge would allow them to find the deepest sections quickly. Often she and a few friends would go and swim in the deep parts when the river was calm. She hadn’t gotten very far before she felt the pain of the bear marks on her hind quarters and she had to stop. She looked behind to see if the she-wolf had followed with the bear. “ The deepest part is by the oak!” She called back, loud enough to be heard over the angry roars. “ You go, I can’t go any farther!” It would be up to the stranger to get the bear over the edge. Another Alana was aware of, it would be impossible for the she-wolf to not go over with the bear. I hope she is a strong swimmer![/blockquote]

'The oak!" Nakoma looked at the she-wolf. "Stay there! I'll get you back to camp! Go to that tree and hide in the roots!" Nakoma nodded to the direction of the roots. There were cobwebs growing in some of the corners. "Take the cobwebs and press them against your wounds! They stop the bleeding!" Without waiting another second, Nakoma recognized the same demon rise. This wolf has saved her life! Nakoma leaped onto the bear's back and clawed at it's eyes. The bear smashed forward in fury. "The oak.. the oak..." she looked for the oak the she-wolf had said. 'There!" She saw a huge oak by the river. Suddenly, Nakoma felt herself lose control. At the same time though, Nakoma felt every muscle move. She felt power course through her veins. She snapped her head back to the bear, and leaped at its chest. She felt claws rake her spine, but didn't care. She leaped off, and jumped into the river. Sure enough, the bear jumped in. The bear's heavy coat combined with the river pulled it down. Nakoma's own pelt was getting water-clogged. Nakoma struggled fretfully. Then in a flash of gold something leaped onto the bear. Nakoma realized the bear was about to claw her. The gold blur was a wolf, but who?
"NEVER--MESS---WITH--WOLVES!" Alanis shrieked. She had saw the bear and the she-wolf fighting in the river. Alanis's fresh muscles ripped at the bear. Before the bear sank, Alanis leaped off. The other she-wolf was being dragged by the current. Alanis grabbed her scruff and pulled her to shore. "Ugh, don't you know NOT to pick a fight with a bear?" She hoisted the she-wolf onto her shoulders. Following her scent trail, she found the bear den. There, there was a wolf crouched down, bleeding. Sighing, Alanis set down the now unconscious she-wolf and went to look at the other one. If it wasn't conscious she would have to take her down to her den....

“Roots what!? Camp!?” Alana hadn’t said anything about that. Completely confused at the she-wolf’s speech she shook her head and watched as the bear followed her to the river. “...Cobwebs and press them against your wounds! They help stop the bleeding!” That was a job for the healer, which is why the Tribe had one. She would make her way back to the camp without the help of the she-wolf. Once the two disappeared into the brush and headed in the direction of the river, Alana relaxed and licked at her wounds. She wouldn’t go before the healer looking like a mess, it would be disgraceful.
By the time she had finished the rain had stopped and the golden sun peeked through the new growth of the forest. Taking in a deep breath Alana felt once again at peace. Although, the bear cubs still lingered on her mind, the tribe would be grateful to have finally gotten rid of the bears, but the wrath of mama bear was nothing compared to the wrath of papa bear. This concern remained in her deepest thoughts as she examined her wounds. In hind sight they didn’t look as bad as she thought they would be. Shaking her head she was about to head home when another scent floated on the breeze.
Perking her ears, she looked in the direction in which it was coming from. “Who are you?” She asked as the golden wolf came into view, carrying an unconscious wolf on her back. “What happened back there?” Shifting into a standing position she approached the golden she-wolf (limping slightly) and dipped her head. “Thank you for saving her, whatever happened!” At least Alana could sleep tonight with the knowledge that the nameless she-wolf she had saved was alive.

"Welcome. I'm Alanis. She led the bear into the river, I killed the bear nad pulled her up. Now, I need your help..." Alanis looked around to see if anyone was near by. "I have an infection. Look at my eyes." Her eyes were unfocused, and they were blurry. "I need you to get rid of this. My mother, father, and brother died of this. I don't want to go..." Alanis felt wobbly. "And I think your tribe owes us a bit for killin' the be-e-ear..." Alanis looked at her. "And you."Studying the she-wolf, she said "Are you goin' to take us?"
