As a Leader, Harboring & Hiding Hate
As Chief Shikoba isn’t used to and doesn’t like his decisions being questioned! This could be decisions are made with the consent of the Elder Council, well some of them anyway. Shikoba has made some pretty stupid mistakes as a Leader, many of the Tribe members hate him for those stupid decisions and many hold grudges against him. Battles have been fought, warriors and hunters have been lost because of some of his stupid choices, but who is perfect? He is patient with most of the tribe and in return they are patient with him. Some back him one hundred percent and others fifty. He cares about what happens to his tribe, and he deeply cares about what they think of him, though Shikoba isn’t one to try and change their minds.
Shikoba does indeed harbor hate. His hate slowly built up, and when he gets a chance to show it, it isn’t a very pretty sight to behold. Though he tries not to show it around the entire pack, there are several wolves that have seen this side of him. When he can no longer contain his hate towards something or someone he lets his emotions flow without trying to stop it. Often times it is about how uncooperative some Tribe members can be. This goes all the way back to the beginning, he doesn’t like his leadership to be questioned, many think this came from his early To-Be years.
Judgment & Grudges
when it comes to judging others, Shikoba finds it easier to judge based on first appearance than on attempting to judge what might be in the heart. He is also more likely to go off of first impressions as to what you are really like than what you might actually be. This makes it difficult for him to judge a situation that is brought to him by his Tribe members to be settled on an official level. If he holds a grudge it may sway his judgment in the others favor.
There are many things to be known about Shikoba, and one of those things is that he doesn’t know how to let go of a grudge, which leads to harboring hate, then hiding it.
What is really underneath & Loves Pups
Perhaps someday Shikoba will settle down with a nice she-wolf and have pups of his own. He loves pups, and adores them! They seem just so carefree and unnerved by what is going on around them, influenced easily by others around them, and they’ll believe most anything they’re told. There isn’t a day that goes by that Shikoba doesn’t wish he could just be a pup again! Getting into harmless trouble with his brother and scolded by his mother, and not a care in the world about what is going on within the Tribe. But, being a leader contradicts his wishes. Only late at night, in his dreams can he be a carefree pup again.
Always trying to put his best out, he approaches a stranger with the intent of a kind of hearted wolf. He isn’t afraid to offer shelter or protection, or perhaps give directions to any wandering soul. If you really get to know him and grow close you’ll find that he is only troubled by the weight of being Chief, and rather easily pulled into an enjoyable conversation. He loves to talk about many subjects like the weather, how the hunting is, where the best places to hunt are, the newest technique for tracking and taking down an elk or a buffalo!
Overall he might not be seen as a strong leader, but he does try his best. There are some out there who would attempt to somehow get rid of him and take over the tribe for themselves. 636

Pup-Hood;
Shikoba was born into the Toopi Tribe and his lived with them all his life. His story starts with being one of the two only pups born to the weakest pair of hunters in the Tribe. Many had expected more pups than two, alas it was not to be! Shikoba and Wayra were twin pups; the only way you could tell the difference between them was the red in Wayra’s coat was much brighter than that of Shikoba’s. At birth, Shikoba was chosen to be a Hunter and Wayra a Warrior. The parents were pleased with the chosen positions of the pups and raised them to believe the same. The brothers were very close to one another, both got into the same amount of trouble and scolded more than once by the pack Elders for getting under their old shaky paws.
One night, when Shikoba was to become a To-Be, he did the worst thing that could possibly have been imagined; alone he snuck in a tribe meeting. Chief Otter That Swims In Brook, old and grey against the moonlight, was speaking the elders in such a tone that sent a chill down his spine. A Tribe leader was not supposed to threaten the Elder council! Outraged by this, Shikoba spoke up. Naturally the Chief and the Elders were surprised to find the pup listening where he was not invited. The Chief, against his own wishes and swayed by the elder council, decided that for his brash actions he would not be allowed attend any of the training sessions for three full moon periods.
To-Be Shikoba;
the harsh reality of what he had done hadn’t set in. Shikoba, after hearing a good majority of what was said at that meeting; the three full moon punishment wasn’t what he was expecting at all! Ahote, Chief Otter That Swims In Brook, would take Shikoba out into the deepest darkest part of the wood and give pup hard training lessons himself. It was unusual that the Chief would take a pup, his parents saw it as an honor, of course they were never told of what Shikoba had done to deserve it in the first place. Ahote was unforgiving the entire time he was with Shikoba, and the side that Shikoba saw was not the leader of the Tribe he had first thought him to be.
Ahote told the pup everything that happened to him Chief. The murders he committed, the lying, the cheating. Shikoba, to frightened of his Chief, never told anyone else what was going on in the woods or why he had such terrible scars. When his three full moons were up, Shikoba was grateful to join the others and learn what he had been born to do. Three assessments later Ahote took to taking the young To-Be into the woods at night and just sit for long periods of time in silence, to this day Shikoba never understood why. The day of his fourth assessment, Shikoba knew he would do well, and he did. He truly felt the path that he was taking was the one his ancestors had designed for him to be on, though he would get his Naming Assignment later than his brother, Shikoba was willing to wait. If anything had taught him patience it was the long nights just sitting, watching and waiting in the dark.
His assignment was to go to The Pines and find Eagle in the Clouds’ pup Basira. Amin, also known as Eagle in the Clouds, was one of the noblest warriors in the Tribe, known for going into the Eastern Mountains and killing the Mountain Eagle that had preyed on pups of the tribe. But there was something, something no one else saw in the Chief’s eyes as he gave the assignment. A look of devilish satisfaction gleamed in his eyes. Something was up, but he would be prepared for anything that was thrown his way!
“I accept.” He stated, rising to his paws to leave the camp, it was noon. As soon as he had ascended the stone steps and entered the forest he headed for The Pines. Many pups had gotten lost in the Pines before, as had many full grown wolves! As the sun began to move into its early evening position, Shikoba had reached the beginning of The Pines. Taking a deep breath he padded along the familiar trails that lead through the Pines in search of the pup’s scent. The sun was just waning into the evening before Shikoba had any luck finding even a trace of the pup, her scent was stale but she had passed this way! This lifted his spirits a little; he would just follow the stale trail until it died. Setting out on his mission, Shikoba found it a bit dull after a while. He got farther and farther away from his home. The pines seemed to close in all round him, darkening the rays of evening light that was trying to filter its way through the close branches. Suddenly, Shikoba had an idea. Tossing his head back he let out a howl, surely the little pup would know how to answer in return! He stopped and titled his ears forward, listening to the dark silence. Nothing…
Many days of this continued Shikoba knew that if he didn’t find the pup – dead or alive – he would have to face his Tribe in shame. When the light in the pines dimmed so that it was hard to see, he stopped and tried looking for anything that might be considered food in these parts. To no avail did he find anything, he had gone without food for who knows how many days. If he didn’t make it back to camp, the Tribe could safely assume that he was dead. So he just sat in growing darkness, perhaps the morning would bring about something that would lead him to something, like he had hoped for the last few days with no reward for his efforts.
Well, a few more days of hunger and Shikoba began wonder if Eagle in the Clouds actually had pups. His dreams were filled with Ahote’s last look. Enraged, Shikoba spun around, nearly losing his balance, and scented his way back through the Pines. Nearly terrified about being lost himself, Shikoba found his old scent trail and followed it out of the pines.
Back in his territory, and filled with revenge and hate Shikoba knew he must go and confront his Chief. But before he could get anywhere he fainted from hunger, during this time he witnessed a vision. In his vision there were two wolves, a kind of starry glow about them. One approached him and spoke something to him, and the other did the same, but although they were right in his ear he could not hear what they had to say. When he came out of his faint Shikoba felt energized, like he could take on a whole battalion of wolves!
Shikoba, Owl That Sits in Darkness;
When he entered the camp without the pup everyone was shocked, including the Chief. Amin just happened to be coming out of the warriors den when Shikoba entered the camp. Challenge in his eyes, the young wolf turned to Ahote. Ahote had lost the shock in his eyes and they now gleamed with hate. Before the Chief could speak Shikoba told of everything that had happened to him in the Pines and the vision of the starry wolves. One of the elders gasped loudly as Shikoba described the wolves. Ahote didn’t like anything that was being said, there were many gasps from the crowd of wolves as he explained what his Chief had tried to do. Growls arose from the crowd and some were already starting to circle around their Chief. So much more was uncovered about Ahote as Shikoba went on. Many things were explained and many scores were about to become settled.
No, Ahote wasn’t killed. He was banished to the forbidden mountains like many before him.
“Shikoba.” One of the elders had approached him, “The council feels that you have earned your Tribe name. The wolves you saw were our ancestors Owl In Flight and Sun that Rises Early. Because they came to you and what you have been through we name you: Owl That Sits In Darkness.”
A few days later, after Shikoba had rested and nourished himself, the Elder Council asked he would take on the position of Chief. Such an honor could not have been refused. Shikoba accepted and went with the Healer to the Ancestors Path to be accepted by his Ancestors.
To This Day;
No one know what has become of Ahote, nor do they care. Shikoba has been Chief for two whole years and is just starting to get the hang of the leadership. 1475
